Contents Solids: classification and main general properties.
Inorganic materials for biomedical applications: mesoporous solids and 2D/3D nanoparticles.
Analysis and discussion of the literature data.
Description of the main techniques of solid state characterization and instrumentation.
Reference texts Lecture notes. Additional teaching material will be provided during the lessons.
Educational objectives Basic concepts on the design and synthesis of inorganic functional solids for biomedical applications. Basic theoretical concepts of morphological and chemical analysis techniques. Operation conditions of the tools and understanding of the meaning of the data obtained, in relation to the investigated material. Advantages and limitations of using the characterization techniques discussed.
Prerequisites In order to understand and achieve the expected learning objectives, the student must have basic skills of general and inorganic chemistry, solid state chemistry and thermodynamics.
Teaching methods The course is organized as follows:
Lectures on all the topics of the course are made available to students on the e-studium platform after registration.
Learning verification modality The exam includes an oral test.

and Single crystal; optical electron microscopy, scanning probe; Thermal analysis: differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, thermomicroscopy; surface analysis
and porosity.
