Contents The course explores the concept of work and organisation in sociology.
In particular we study: the birth of the sociology of work, the main theories of sociology of organisation, the industrial question, Taylor and Ford, Human Relations, the socio-technical approach, the Toyota model, Total Quality Management, post-Fordism, flexibility and precarity. Organisation metaphors and organisational models are explored through the study of some key concepts such as leadership styles, conflicts, climate, culture and motivation at work. Finally, some socio-economic issues concerning the labour market are explored: women, young people, immigrants, the unemployed, neet, etc.

Educational objectives The teaching aims to provide the cognitive basis of the sociology of economic and work processes and to promote the acquisition of sociological skills of work organisation. The main knowledge that students acquire at the end are:
- Knowledge of the historical development of the sociology of work,
- Knowledge of the main sociology theories of the organisation: Taylor and Ford, Human Relations, French school and Italian approach, organisation metaphors and organisational models, Barnard, Blauner, Braverman, Toyota model and post-Fordism;
- knowledge of how organisations work: leadership, conflict, climate, culture and participation;
- knowledge of the dynamics of the contemporary labor market and flexibility.
Prerequisites In order to better understand the contents developed during the course the student (attending and not attending) must know the main theories and concepts of general sociology and social research methodology.
Teaching methods Lessons in the Narni city. In-depth e-learning on the Unistudium platform. Movie/film screenings. Scientific seminars (where possible).
Lessons Online on Microsoft Teams only for those who are eligibles.
