Contents | The course introduces the concept of risk in psychology, emphasizing a psychopathological perspective to understanding, assessing, and intervening in risk conditions. In particular, the main conditions of risk behavior across the lifespan will be explored, including the internalizing and externalizing spectrum, and the main diagnostic frameworks will be explored in-depth. The risk and protective factors that, across the lifespan, contribute to behaviors that undermine individual, relational, and social safety will be further explored. |

Educational objectives | The main aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge and skills on the most representative and current topics and debates on risk behavior from a psychological and psychopathological perspective. The aims of the course are thus defined with reference to the following domains: - Knowledge and understanding: allow the student to achieve the fundamental knowledge needed to distinguish the main psychological functioning concepts related to risk behavior; - Application of knowledge: allow the student to apply this knowledge to recognize situations of potential risk and identify the most appropriate assessment tools for their evaluations; - Making judgments: the student will be able to integrate the knowledge acquired at a theoretical level with the specificity of the concrete cases that they will be able to encounter in potential work contexts;- Communication: the student will acquire specific terminology that will allow them to communicate with specialist (and non-specialist) interlocutors in mental health settings and/or in an interdisciplinary context;- Ability to learn: the student will develop the competence to independently study and conduct research of specialized material (also) through the competent and critical use of bibliographic searches in specialized databases |

Learning verification modality | The final exam will consist of a written exam consisting of 22 multiple choice questions and one open-ended question. Multiple choice questions will be graded with one point for each correct answer, and no points deducted for missing or incorrect answers. The open-ended question will be graded from 0 to 11, where 11 denotes excellence. The overall grade can therefore vary between 0 and 33; scores between 31 and 33 will be worth the cum laude. For those attending, it will be possible to complete an intermediate assessment during the course, graded on a scale of 0 to 11, to replace the open-ended question of the exam. |
