| Contents | The present course aimed at providing a comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge in the field the clinical psychology and psychopathology, along with their methods, tools, criteria, and current diagnostic approaches, in order to prepare the future clinical psychologist to the current contexts of prevention, diagnosis, assessment, psychological support and intervention. |

| Educational objectives | The main aim of the present course is to offer an advanced knowledge of conceptual, theoretical, methodological, and practical aspects of the clinical psychology field, its interventions, and its applications in clinical practice when applied to the main constellations of psychopathology. The course objectives are defined as follows concerning the following domains: Knowledge and understanding skills: To enable the student to become acquainted with the the methodological-practical principles of clinical psychology and the related clinical applications in the prevention and treatment of psychological distress and psychopathological symptoms. Application of knowledge: to enable the student to acquire advanced practice-methodological skills in the clinical and diagnostic reasoning, along with the case formulation and treatment planning. Autonomy of judgment: the student will be able to integrate knowledge acquired at a theoretical level with the specificity of concrete cases for understanding the individuals' psychopathological functioning. Communication: the student will acquire a specific terminology that will enable them to communicate with specialists (and non-specialists) in the clinical field and/or in an interdisciplinary ways. Ability to learn: the student will develop the competence to study independently and to research specialized materials, including through the use of bibliographic research databases. |
| Prerequisites | To properly understand and apply the topics addressed in the present course, the student should have a basic knowledge of clinical psychology and general psychopathology. This basic requirement is valid for all students. |
| Teaching methods | Teaching activities will be carried out through in-person lectures along with the sharing of multimedia materials; Group discussions and activities on clinical illustrations; and invited experts' seminars and workshops (if possible) |

| Learning verification modality | In order to sustain the exam, all students (attending and non-attending, working students, students with disabilities and/or DSA) are requested to consider the abovementioned reference texts. There is a final assessment consisting of a written examination lasting (as a whole) 60 minutes divided into two parts: - Part One: 30 multiple-choice questions on two mandatory books (20 minutes) - Part two: 3 open-ended questions on the mandatory books (one) and the book chosen by the student (two) (40 minutes) Evaluation criteria: - Closed questions: 1 point for a correct answer and 0 points for a wrong or missing answer. Wrongs answers will not receive any penalities. - Open questions: each question is evaluated from 0 to 10 points (with an overall evaluation in thirtieths); assessment criteria: (a) Focus and relevance of the answer (b) Coherence of the answer (c) Pertinence of the answer Final assessment/result of the exam: average of the two evaluations obtained on closed and open questions. This written modality aimed at evaluating the level of knowledge and comprehension aquired by the student on the main topic of the course. Students with disabilities and/or DSA will have up to a maximum of 30% more time to complete the exam and may use any compensatory tools. If the student intends to take the exam a year before the year scheduled in the study plan, it is recommended that they attend the cycle of lessons and take the exam in the first useful call after the lessons have ended, thus respecting the semester of the teaching schedule. |
| Extended program | The main aims of the course will be: (1) Offer and advanced knowledge of the main topics of the current clinical psyhcopathology within a bio-psico-social model; 2) Illustrate the assessment process which lead to the clinical diagnosis and case formulation, putting together the complexity of clinical observation and the use of reliable assessment tools, as well as the clinical practice and empirical research; 3) Promote an advanced knowledge of the most contemporary of current diagnostic systems, with a main focus on the PDM-2, to facilitate a tailored treatment planning. The main contents of the course will be: the diagnostic process in clinical psychology and psychopathology; history, structure, and contents of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2); personality and personality disorders; the main domains of mental functioning, with a specific focus on defense mechanisms; diagnosis and the continuum of care of feeding and eating disorders; clinical implications and intervention strategies of the clinical psychologist, with a specific focus on tailored strategies. |
