Contents | The lab aims to develop and further explore specific methodological skills covered in the Methodology course. |
Reference texts | The reference texts are the same as those of the course. |
Educational objectives | The lab aims to provide a practical experience in applying educational research methodologies. In particular, students will acquire operational skills to: - Develop data collection tools such as questionnaires, interviews, and observations. - Analyze and interpret collected data using quantitative or qualitative techniques. -Write a research report that is structured and consistent with the methodological principles learned in the theoretical course. |
Prerequisites | Methodology of Educational Research course |
Teaching methods | Experiential approach |
Other information | The lab is closely linked to the Methodology of Educational Research course and requires participation during the scheduled hours. Students who are unable to attend will be given an alternative path. |
Learning verification modality | The evaluation of the lab will focus on the outputs of the proposed research experience. |
Extended program | Definition of a research hypothesis and theoretical framework, sampling, identification of methods and tools, data collection and analysis, presentation of results. |

[Example of mixed methods research] All recommended texts include a theoretical section and an empirical research section. Particular attention should be paid to understanding the methodological aspects and research findings. 3) The slides available on the course e-learning platform are an integral part of the study material. |
Educational objectives | By the end of the course, students should be able to: - Understand the fundamentals of educational research methodology. - Critically read and analyse educational research studies. - Design a research study (define the topic, develop a theoretical framework and reference bibliography, establish objectives and research questions, formulate research questions and hypotheses, identify participants, select data collection tools and analysis methods). - Use the most common data collection tools and understand the main procedures for their development. - Apply basic tools and techniques for the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data. |
Prerequisites | No specific prerequisites are required. |
Teaching methods | The course includes a combination of lectures and interactive sessions, practical exercises, group work, case studies (analysis of empirical research), and authentic tasks (development of a research project). |
Other information | |
Learning verification modality | - Written test on reference texts, consisting of multiple-choice and open-ended questions, as well as a descriptive statistics exercise (measures of dispersion and central tendency). - Research project (for attending students: a cooperative task to be completed during the course; for non-attending students: an individual task to be submitted via email at least 10 days before the exam date and discussed during the exam). |
Extended program | The proposed programme will focus on the following topics: - Introduction to educational research (definition and purposes of educational research, main paradigms and methodological approaches) - Formulating a research problem, research questions and hypotheses, literature review, and bibliographic sources - Research methods (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches) - Variables and measurement scales - Validity and reliability of research - Data collection tools(questionnaires, rating scales, interviews and focus groups, structured and unstructured observation) - Data analysis (descriptive statistics, qualitative analysis techniques) |
