Contents The course explores the main theories of criminology and psychology on deviance, which are useful for understanding and explaining risky behaviors that can be considered manifestations of deviance (i.e., abnormal behavior) and/or criminal conduct. This will be done by outlining risk and protective factors, both internal and external, i.e., those related to the psychological and social environment. Therefore, both personality-based and social and cultural factors of criminal and deviant behavior will be examined.
The course also aims to provide students with an understanding of the various forms of crime and deviance and the most effective responses from society, focusing on the main goals of psycho-criminological intervention in terms of safety and treatment and the reduction of recidivism.
The main objective of the course is the advanced acquisition of some basic concepts of social and clinical psychology, applied in a legal and judicial context. The program aims to illustrate an integrated assessment and intervention approach, to understand the complexity of phenomena related to marginalization and deviance.
