Contents The course, building upon knowledge gained in the first year of this discipline, will explore the following topics in depth:

The theoretical perspective of social work, with particular reference to the task-centered unified model;
The relational dimension from a co-construction perspective of intervention and empowerment, with a focus on verbal and non-verbal communication, emotional management, the use of tools during interviews, and written social work documentation;
The social work intervention process from an evaluative and integrated approach, covering analysis of the request and referral, the individualized care plan, and the integrated personalized plan.

RESEARCH PAPER: in-depth study of an area of social service intervention through the study of a research article ( in Italian or English or Spanish) chosen together with the lecturer (at least one month in advance). A list of articles to choose from will possibly be prepared.
Educational objectives The course aims to consolidate and deepen the knowledge and skills acquired in the first year, with the goal of training social workers capable of operating in complex contexts and responding to emerging societal needs. Specifically, the course aims to:

Deepen theoretical models of social work
Examine the theoretical perspective of social work, with particular reference to the task-centered unified model.

Develop relational and communication skills
Foster a thorough understanding of the relational dimension of social intervention, with a focus on verbal and non-verbal communication, emotional management, and the use of tools during interviews.

Apply the helping process from an integrated and evaluative perspective
Provide tools for the co-construction of interventions and user empowerment, addressing the various stages of the intervention process: needs analysis, design of individualized care plans, and integrated personalized plans.

Enhance professional documentation and writing skills
Promote the proper use of documentation in social work, with exercises on drafting written reports and producing essential technical documents for professional practice.

Integrate theory and practice through case studies and simulations
Offer opportunities for active learning through case studies, group discussions, and simulations to strengthen critical analysis and the practical application of learned methodologies.

Prepare students for interdisciplinary work
Strengthen the skills needed to collaborate with other professionals, focusing on socio-healthcare integration and the design of multidimensional interventions
Prerequisites In order to understand and apply the topics covered in this course, students are required to have successfully completed the exam in Social Work Methods and Techniques I. The skills and methodologies that students must possess as essential prerequisites for effectively following the course include: principles and foundations of professional social work, principles of professional ethics, the unified approach, and the helping process.
Teaching methods Lectures, discussions, group work and practical exercises, seminars, case studies, handouts.
Other information Teaching Materials: Handouts and supplementary materials will be made available on the university's learning platform (Unistudium). Students are encouraged to check it frequently for updates and additional resources.
Office Hours: Office hours will be held weekly by appointment, with the possibility of online meetings to accommodate students who cannot attend in person.
Supplementary Activities: During the semester, seminars with industry professionals, simulation workshops, and guest lectures by experienced social workers will be organized. Participation in these activities is strongly recommended.
Learning verification modality Examination will be given in oral form.
An optional written test will be prepared in December on half of the program.

1. In-depth Study of Social Work Theory

Review and consolidation of content covered in the first year.
Exploration of the theoretical perspective of social work, with particular reference to the task-centered unified model.
Critical analysis of key methodological approaches in light of new challenges in social work.

2. The Relational and Communication Dimension in Social Intervention

In-depth study of the helping relationship from a co-construction and empowerment perspective.
Development of skills in verbal and non-verbal communication during professional interviews.
Exercises on emotional management in interactions with service users and the use of specific communication tools.
Professional writing workshops for drafting social work reports and documentation.

3. The Social Work Intervention Process

Analysis of key stages in the helping process:
Analysis of requests and referrals.
Design of individualized care plans (PAI).
Development of an integrated personalized plan to meet complex user needs.
Evaluative approach to social intervention, with particular attention to outcome assessment and monitoring.

4. Documentation and Professional Writing

Study of documentation methodologies in social work.
Practical exercises based on the text "Documentazione e servizio sociale" by L. Bini.
In-depth exploration of guidelines for drafting professional reports and documentation.

5. Areas of Social Work Intervention

Analysis of key areas of social work intervention through the text by Campanini (2016).
Focus on key sectors such as:
Child and family protection.
Disability and social inclusion.
Community social work.
Discussion of case studies drawn from professional practice.

6. Interdisciplinary Approach and Socio-Healthcare Integration

Analysis of the integration between social and healthcare services.
Development of skills for networking and collaborating with other professions.
Design of multidimensional interventions through simulations and group work.

7. Research Article Study

In-depth study of a specific area through the analysis of a research article in Italian, English, or Spanish, chosen in collaboration with the lecturer.
Classroom presentation and discussion of the selected article, aiming to develop critical thinking and analytical skills.
